Final Classes of SWTOR are Uncovered Last week, BioWare held a press conference about their upcoming MMO: The Old Republic. Many new features were announced, such as non-class specific abilities, companions, and tech trees. The most interesting item revealed were the final two classes to the TOR line up: the Sith Inquisitor and the Jedi Consular. Sith Inquisitor Described as a mix of Darth Maul and Emperor Palpatine, the Sith Inquisitor is a master of force powers. As the Inquisitor, players can expect to have amazing, acrobatic lightsaber attacks, and a large amount of force abilities: shock, lightening hold, dark meditation, and more! The Inquisitor differs from the Sith Warrior in that you’re primary focus as the Inquisitor is about disabling opponents, so that the tide of battle tips in your favor. The Inquisitor should not be seen as a “caster” type class though, because many of their abilities allow them to fight in the thick of battle. The closest thing I can think of is a Red Mage from the Final Fantasy series: you have spells, but you can also wield a sword. Most battles will consist of the Inquisitor disabling a group of enemies from afar, running in and killing a few, and then taking on one or two free moving targets. One thing is for sure, if you like lightening – and I do – then you’ll love the Inquisitor. The Jedi Consular The Consular acts as the Republic’s answer to the Sith’s Inquisitor. The Consular as been linked to characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, and even Yoda, which leads up to believe that the Jedi Consular will be quite the “force” to reckon with. As with the Inquisitor, Consulars are the yin to the Jedi Knight’s yang -- Consulars contemplate their attacks, while Knights charge in. The Consular has many Jedi powers to choose from, and the ones that we were able to see were: Mind Maze, Force Pull, Force Slam, and more. The fighting style of the Consular is about disabling opponents from afar, and pulling enemies to you, rather than you going to them; however, Consulars are still masters of the lightsaber, and most opponents will still die to your “blade.” Our Thoughts The Consular and Inquisitor obviously have the same, general theme behind them, but they differ greatly in their presentation – passive versus aggressive, respectively. Both classes have a healing ability, but from what we’ve seen of SWTOR, we don’t suspect them to be pigeon-holed into a healing role. Both classes have devastating attacks, powerful crowd-controls (CCs), and amazing lightsaber attacks. We are happy to see another “force-power” class in the lineup, because who doesn’t want to play a Jedi/Sith when playing a Star Wars game? Hopefully having two different force classes on each side will add some variety to the player base come launch day. Most importantly, this is an MMO, so you’ll be playing a lot of other people, and hopefully a few friends. We know we’ll enjoy having one team member go Knight/Warrior while the other goes Consular/Inquisitor. As more information develops regarding these classes, MMOFury will be sure to check them out and report our findings to you. Until then, may the Force be with you.
