How To Solo A Bard
Recently we have been spending quite a bit of of time storming our way through the dungeons of DDO Unlimited and I have to admit that it has been a blast. In part 2 of our 4 part Bard series I have highlighted some strengths to focus on which will help you on your way of trying to learn one of the most difficult classes in DDO. Bards are said to be “challenging” as a solo class, but it is possible to solo with them and to make them quite powerful. This guide aims to help you develop a strong solo Bard, and a strong buffer for parties. The best, debatable, build for a solo Bard is Bard 18/Fighter 2, Warchanter. Bard Stats to focus on Strength Strength will be your Bard's most important stat because you want your melee attacks to be devastating. Take whatever enhancements, tomes, or abilities you can to improve this stat above all else. Your Bard's songs are still important, but serve as a utility to your melee attacks. Constitution Constitution gives your Bard a larger pool of health to pull from. You’ll need higher Constitution to take the hits the monsters toss at you. Some Bards don’t think of Constitution because of healing scrolls, but you’re here to fight and not to heal. Again, take whatever enhancements, tomes, or abilities you can to improve this stat. Charisma Your songs are important and require a certain amount of Charisma to perform. You won’t need to buff Charisma up nearly as much as Strength and Constitution, but it is still important. Charisma may be your lowest stat overall, which is fine for this build, but keep the Charisma requirement in balance with your level. Remember you’re a Bard and you’re supposed to be singing, but while this Bard sings he also swings. Skills - In order of importance: UMD Perform Concentration Haggle Tumble Diplomacy UMD and Perform are obviously important for your Bard's songs, so they have the highest priority. Concentration is great because you can cast while fighting, and you’ll be doing a lot of fighting. Haggle helps a lot too, and should be maxed out after Concentration. Tumble and Diplomacy are somewhat optional, but work for their position. You can replace Tumble and Diplomacy with Balance or Jump depending on your preferences. Bard Feats - By level: Power Attack (Fighter level) Two-Weapon Fighting Weapon Focus: Slash 6. Extend 9. Improved Two-Weapon Fighting 12. (Fighter Level) Improved Critical Slash 12. Khopesh 15. Greater Two-Weapon Fighting 18. Empower Healing Bard Spells Focusing Chant, Expeditious Retreat, Merfolk’s Blessing, Remove Fear Blur, Rage, Invis, Cure Moderate Displacement, Haste, Good Hope, Cure Serious Dimension Door, Freedom, Cure Critical, Break Enhancement Greater Heroism, Mass Cure Light, Shadow Walk Mass Cure Moderate, Free Slot
To sum up this Bard build, it’s going to be difficult in the early levels, and this character defiantly requires some resources to perfect; however, the later levels he’ll be one of the top DDO melees in a group or by himself, and bring great utility to the group as a whole.
