International Battleground War Dividing?

Anyone that has played in heavily political PVP MMORPGs knows that race wars have always been looked at as a bad thing.  Even the hint that an attack was based on the opponent's country of origin has resulted in countless banhammers striking down on players.  Well, not the case of game publisher IGG and their sci-fi themed MMO 'Galaxy Online', recently the publisher launched an international event that pitted Chinese players against U.S. players, the Chinese won by what many consider a lopsided margin.

The 'International Battleground War' event was considered a big success infact, IGG is already preparing for round 2.  Each participant is going to receive the same amount of initial resources and Science points, and the time required to erect a building or build a ship will be shortened by 50%.  The side that controls the most galaxies at the war's conclusion gets the victory.

Aside from the conspiracy theories that IGG, being an Asian based company, affected the outcome in some way (We don't think that is the case), this does bring up the issue of whether this kind of race war is in the best interest of players.  Going out on a limb, I would have to say that the growing hate amoung gamers from different countries is a very real thing and while this kind of event is fun, and brings in money to the publisher, the end result brings us further apart as community.  Carebear? Yea, but in the grand scheme of things many gamers are looking for events that bring international players together, not apart.
